I love designing albums for my wedding photographer clients. It’s always a fun process to me – seeing these gorgeous days and helping to create an heirloom product that their couples will treasure for years to come. After designing albums for a few years now, there’s a few software programs I definitely couldn’t create designs without! WeTransfer
One of the tricky parts about album design can be getting the images from your client (or their clients) and then sending the final files to your client. I LOVE WeTransfer for that process. It’s super quick, secure, and the transfer limits are usually more than enough for my files. Depending on how you export the album spreads (especially if you use PSDs), the files can be massive! WeTransfer makes it super easy to share those final layouts for backup purposes!
SmartAlbums
When it comes to actually designing the albums, I absolutely adore Pixellu SmartAlbums! This program is easy to use and very intuitive. If I have to go back and make edits, it’s really easy to add in new images, swap them out or change layouts. In fact, this software has tons of pre-made layouts which also makes designing the spreads easy. One of my other favorite features is that they have the dimensions, print requirements, and more for hundreds of printing companies and their final options. This means I know that exactly what I’m designing will work for the final print!
Album Exposure
The best way to share spreads and gather feedback is Album Exposure. Here, you can create a preview of your album for your clients to review. Comments can be added right on the spread and your client can even select an image – this makes updating the version super easy. Album Exposure also keeps a history of the versions so you can always be sure everyone is on the same page.
Designing wedding and family albums is literally a dream for me. I love creating something tangible from the beautiful images my clients have photographed. These software programs make it SUPER easy for us to create a streamlined process for us – but also for their clients.
