4 Tasks to Outsource Today as a Small Business Owner

Business Tips

March 21, 2023

I love that outsourcing has become a trending word in the creative industry. I whole-heartedly believe that none of us are meant to run our businesses alone. We should be leaning on other people for support – and for many business owners, that comes in the form of outsourcing. I’m commonly asked what business owners should outsource first. Honestly, I don’t think that there’s a right answer – it’s personal for you and your business needs. But, today I thought I’d share a few tasks to  outsource. Maybe one will feel right for your business!

4 tasks to outsource today as a small business owner: VA and content writer Kristina Dowler shares how to start outsourcing

Accounting or bookkeeping.

Let’s be honest, numbers aren’t everyone’s thing. But numbers matter – especially when it comes to running your own business. Consider outsourcing your accounting or bookkeeping to a CPA or bookkeeper. Not only does this free up the time you would have spent trying to balance your books and categorize those expenses, but it will give you the mental freedom to put your energy elsewhere. I personally have LOVED working with my bookkeeper (Madison Dearly) the last 6 months. It’s been amazing to have someone from the outside look at my numbers and help me make some big decisions.

Editing.

If you’re a photographer, this is a GREAT task to start outsourcing. Imagine how much time you’d get back if you weren’t culling and editing every single image in your galleries. You can absolutely find an editor that will match your style and give you hours back each week. I recommend asking around in your local photography groups for referrals for editors. But, I promise you: there are some incredible ones out there!

Social Media and/or Pinterest management.

If you need some extra help showing up consistently when it comes to your social media accounts, consider hiring a social media management company. They’ll help you create optimized posts to reach your ideal audiences, while honoring your voice and message. Many agencies will complete hashtag research and work with you to create the curated feed you always wanted.

Blogging.

Here’s one I can help with! Blogging is a GREAT resource for small business owners. It’s one of the best ways to reach new audiences because Google is doing the work for you. But, I get it: blogging consistently can feel overwhelming. Consider hiring a content writer who will be able to take your images and notes to create an optimized post to make both Google and clients alike happy!

Outsourcing is truly about getting your life back while handing off tasks that someone else can do to a team member. My biggest advice when it comes to outsourcing is to sit down and list out every single task you do in your business. From there, determine what you absolutely have to do and touch and what someone else can do. Those “someone else can do” tasks are tasks you can outsource. At that point, you can look at your budget and determine where to start. But be warned: once you start outsourcing, you may not want to stop!
