3 Tips to Optimize Your Blog

Business Tips

August 30, 2021

Blogging is a great way for potential clients to find you through Google. In my opinion, it’s important to have a blog with purpose in order to make the most of this free marketing. Writing blogs is one thing but being able to optimize them so Google wants to share your content with viewers is another! If I’m being honest, blogging can start to feel super technical if you only look through the optimization lens, but it’s still really important to do everything you can to be found! Here’s three quick ways to optimize your blog today and make Google happy (so they share you with the world)!

3 Tips to Optimize Your Blog: Blogging Tips for Business Owners from content writer Kristina Dowler, of Dot the I's Outsourcing

Resize your images.

Check out what your blog’s dimensions are and download BlogStomp. Through BlogStomp, you can resize your images to those dimensions and pair them together to create collages. By resizing your images so they load faster, readers will want to stay on your site! The longer someone stays on your site and is engaged with your content, the better for you and that ever important Google reaction! Plus seriously, who doesn’t want things to work faster these days?

Use alt text.

Basically, alt text is a description of any image you use on your blog. This text tells the computer what the image is about, which helps Google decide who to share it with. It also serves as a descriptor for someone who’s visually challenged or if something didn’t load on your site. I won’t lie, it can feel super tedious to go into every image you add on the blog and input alt text but I promise you, it makes a huge difference.

If you need to start slower, aim for at least half of the blog images. But, work up to adding it to all of them. Alt text is searchable by Google so it can make a huge difference in making your blog stand out and be found by the right people. If you want to get into the technicalities of alt text, check out my post about it all here

Install Yoast.

To be fair, this tip only applies to people who blog on WordPress, but it’s a big one! If you haven’t already, download the Yoast plugin. This plugin will help you ensure that every piece of content you release on your site is optimized! I believe in blogging with a purpose. Take the extra step by ensuring every post you share will score well with the search engines.

Blogging is a great free marketing tool for every business owner. No matter what audience you have, you have content that can be shared and make it easier to find you! Lean into that and start sharing your posts with the world. I hope these three quick tips help you realize how easy it is to optimize your blog and create strong posts that will help move your site up the list and your business out to the people.

  1. Such great content! I have a question though what is Blog Stomp, I looked it up and don’t quite understand. Is it a separate program from wordpress that you put your images through to resize?

    • kristina says:

Sure! It is a separate software. You can use it to resize, pair your images into collages (like two vertical images side by side) and rename images, as well. It’s amazing!!
