One of the things I’m most excited for throughout this blog series is that Danielle + I get to go taste wine and call it work. I mean, seriously. How wonderful is that?! We’ve been kind of slow at hitting the wineries but personally, I think we’re hitting the right time of year to actually go. The fall weather makes wine even better – you’re not sweating out on the patios, the crisp days just feel wonderful and cooler weather means mulled wine! I just LOVE that (don’t worry, a recipe will be up soon for our favorite mulled wines)! But since we visited a few wineries while we dreamed up this series, we thought we’d start today by sharing one of those wineries! We visited Potomac Point Winery in June for Danielle’s birthday. The winery is in Stafford, so right near us and I’d been there – but she hadn’t so it was a lot of fun taking her to the tasting!
Winery Name: Potomac Point Winery
Address: 275 Decatur Rd, Stafford, VA 22554
Time of Year Visited: Summer
Wine Tasting:
Kristina – Overall I think the wine tasting experience at PPW is nice – the staff is full of great information! When it’s busy, things definitely slow down but that doesn’t really bother me. We had time to chat, really taste the wine + think about what we enjoyed or didn’t. I thought we got a good number of wines for the price too. I’ve tasted them before so I knew what to expect. Truthfully, I really only like the red wines here!
Danielle – I have not had many experiences doing wine tastings, so this was a fun experience for me. There was a wide variety of wines, and just as Kristina mentioned I was really only a fan of the red wines. The staff is very informative and friendly and made the overall tasting enjoyable.
Favorite Wine:
Kristina – Mine is definitely their Merlot! Is there any surprise? It’s a beautiful wine – great taste + color as you can see in the first picture!
Danielle – Truthfully, I was not a huge fan of most of the wines we tasted there. I would have to agree with Kristina and say the Merlot was also my favorite.
Favorite Aspect of Winery:
Kristina – THE VIEW! PPW is not lacking for a view, that’s for sure! I love that they’re up on a hill and you can go sit on their beautiful patio to watch the sunset over the vines. Ryan and I almost got married here truthfully because we love the architecture of the tasting room, barrel room and the patio. It’s stunning – it’s got a beautiful old world charm to it. I loved getting to spend the evening with Danielle chatting away and drinking wine on such a beautiful property! That alone was totally worth coming to Potomac Point.
Danielle – The view is gorgeous and made the drinking experience that much better. We were able to watch the sunset and just soak in the start of the summer. After the tasting we took a bottle of the Merlot and just relaxed, talked, and drank. It was such a wonderful day and great way to spend my birthday with my best friend!
Would We Return?:
Danielle – I love how close this winery is to where Kristina and I live. It makes it so convenient and is the perfect place to go after work on a Friday night. Unfortunately, I was not a huge fan of most of the wines we tasted there. I would like to go back to try the food and get another bottle of the Merlot to split with Kristina!
Kristina – I think it’s definitely worth a trip so we have somewhere to relax that isn’t too far away and they have a good Merlot to enjoy, so yes! Maybe just skip the wine tasting this time!
As the colors change, we’ll definitely have to make a trip back to Potomac Point to grab some beautiful pictures of the fall colors! It’s a nice local winery to be able to enjoy without having to go too far – which is awesome! Can’t wait to see which winery we share with you next! Where’s your favorite? We’d love to go… for research, of course! 😉
Cheers!
Kristina + Danielle
