Wine Cork Pumpkin Decoration Tutorial | Wine About It

Uncategorized

October 21, 2016

There’s something about wine corks that screams DIY. Or is that just me? Ryan and I have tons all over our house because, well, we love wine. Our families love wine. Our friends love wine. Basically, Dowler is synonymous with wine (don’t cart me off to a meeting yet…). So, naturally when Danielle and I found this super cute pumpkin craft that involves, you guessed it, wine corks – how could I say no?!

If you know me, you know I love the idea of DIY projects. My reality is, though, I am no Martha Stewart and most of my DIY projects turn out to be fails or semi-successes which really just look pretty terrible. It’s fact that I’ve come to face about myself. Despite that, I never stop trying (which is really the best part, right?). Danielle on the other hand is basically a DIY wonder woman. So thank goodness for that. She saves my projects all the time!

Anyway, the project itself is very simple. Here’s what you do:
Step 0) Drink enough wine to have the corks you need or go buy some. We do not suggest drinking it all in one sitting since you need 25 corks. 😉
Step 1) Paint the ends of the corks orange then let them dry.
Step 2) Hot glue the corks together – laying flat with the corks touching sides (glue 4 in a row, 5 in a row, 6 in a row, 5 in a row and then 4 in a row). We found that keeping similar sized corks together made the pumpkin look better!
Step 3) Glue the rows together on top of each other. (Row amounts: 4, 5, 6, 5, 4). It should look like a wine cork pumpkin when you’re done.
Step 4) Halve one cork to use for the stem (really sharp scissors and some strong hands will do the trick). Glue it on top of the pumpkin.
Step 5) Cut out a leaf from felt or paper (whatever you have is fine) then glue it by the stem.
Step 6)  A little twine goes a long way! Wrap a piece around the stem a few times then make a bow.

Voila! A super cute pumpkin made of wine corks. I mean, seriously, who doesn’t LOVE IT?! Let Danielle + me see how yours turns out!!
Cheers to you!
