Wine About It is a place for us to do a few things: It’s a chance for us to share our trips to the wineries around VA (and hopefully further) with you – sharing what we didn’t like, LOVED, and some tips. This series is a chance to share our love of crafting and baking with you as it pertains to wine – things that we can make, bake/eat that all enhance a wine’s flavors. It’s a chance for us to see more of what makes Virginia wines amazing and it’s a chance to just share who we are with you. I am beyond excited to have my best friend along for this series – you’ll get to know her and hear her voice. (Trust me, she’s brilliant).
We already have several posts in the work for this series but we thought for today, we’d share a few questions + answers with you so you could get to know us a little better. If you have another question, we’d love to answer it for you! Here we go…
If you could have a glass of wine with anyone (living or dead), who would it be?
Danielle: I am a musician so I would love to share a drink with a former composer. Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, or Dvorak are just a few of my favorites. I think it would be fun to drink a glass of wine with one of them and pick their brains on what inspired them to write some of my favorite pieces of music!
Kristina: I’m beginning to wonder why I suggested this question because it’s actually hard to answer… But I guess I’d pick Walt Disney! (I don’t even know if he would drink wine…). I share a birthday with him and I’ve always been inspired by the way he looked at the world and viewed imagination + creativity. I think it would be a fun time to chat with one of this world’s visionaries.
Favorite winery:
Danielle: So far my favorite winery would be Morais. It was such a nice atmosphere and there was a great variety of wine. I loved their wine tasting (not too expensive) and I was able to try some new wines that I really enjoy! I have only been to a few wineries, so I am looking forward to trying new places.
Kristina: I think this is a tie for me. I love Ingleside Vineyards (Colonial Beach, VA) because I was married there. We’ve never EVER had a bad glass of wine there and their staff is phenomenal. I also really love Morais (Bealton, VA), like Danielle, because again – NO BAD WINE! It’s all so good!! And I love Ferrante’s Winery in OH. It’s where I go with my in laws any chance I get because their wine is super good and they have PIZZA. Um. Hello. No brainer.
Favorite type of wine:
Danielle: I love trying different wines, but more recently I have found a few different types I go for more often. This summer I have been loving trying different rose wines. They have been great for the hotter months, as I find them quite refreshing and not too sweet. I also tend to go for more red than white wines (especially with cooler weather coming!) I love Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines specifically.
Kristina: I’m really into Merlot lately! I’ve become a really big sucker for a good glass of red wine.
Favorite snack to go with wine:
Danielle: I tend to go for more savory snacks in general, but I will not turn away a good piece of dark chocolate with some wine! I also really enjoy drinking wine with a selection of nice cheese and crackers. I would like to learn more about how to better pair food with wine. I love cooking meals for myself and I think nice wine pairings would really add to them.
Kristina: I usually prefer to have some sort of crackers + cheese with my wine. My family really loves spreadable brie (no really, it will change your life) and it’s definitely a go to for outings with wine along with pepperoni. I’ve recently found a few wines that are great with dark chocolate w/sea salt or milk chocolate so that’s always a great option!
So there you have it! Wine About It has officially kicked off!! Where’s your favorite winery? We’d love to go and try a glass!!
Cheers to you!
