The second port we visited on our cruise this summer was Nassau, Bahamas! This island is the home of the world-famous Atlantis resort (which we saw from our bus trip!). We were only in the Bahamas for a day – not even a full one – so we opted to take a bus tour through the island!
The trip took three hours and we traveled all over the island listening to our driver talk about the island’s history and culture. We wouldn’t have been able to see nearly as much without the tour! We’re so glad we chose that option!! Like Bermuda, the island is full of beautifully colored buildings and lots of gorgeous palm trees. Our first stop on the tour was Fort Charlotte, built up on a hill overlooking the island. We didn’t have too long to explore but the view was gorgeous!!
That blue water is just breathtaking in person!! Luckily, our next stop was a beach on the island – the water was warm and the sand was bright white – just everything I had imagined a tropical beach to be!!!!
We finished up the tour with a tasting/tour at the John Watling distillery! Turns out you can only get their rum there on the island – they don’t have an export license. How amazing is that?! Ryan loved the rum (me, not so much!) but seeing the distillery was still pretty neat! After our bus tour, Ryan and his parents enjoyed trying out a local brewery on the island – which they loved! No surprise there!
Our time on Nassau was short but we definitely got a great taste for the island!! The island is full of lots of fun stops for tourists and wonderful people – a great second port for us Caribbean newbies!
XOXO,
Kristina
