Running a Business during the 1st Trimester | Pregnancy + Business

Uncategorized

October 12, 2017

When we found out I was pregnant, I’d be lying if I said that one of the first few thoughts I had about the entire thing was how this would impact my business. I love what I do  and I love who I work with, but I also know that we’ve wanted a baby and to grow our family. I felt a little conflicted. What if I couldn’t give enough back to my business during this process? What if after the baby came, I wasn’t being a good mom? How would I learn to balance such a new and important part of my life against everything else I’m already doing? With all of these thoughts running through my head, exhausting running through my veins like nothing else I’d ever experienced and the overwhelming joy of the start of such an incredible process, running a business felt near impossible some days.
But, I promise, it was possible! It IS possible. I know I’m not the only momma-to-be that’s experienced those emotions and thoughts and realized I still I had to get my work done. Set yourself up for success. I had to learn not to demand so much from myself – simply because I needed to rest. I had to remind myself that a few weeks of slower blogging or social media would be okay, that an email could indeed wait until the next morning to be answered and that it really was okay to go eat and go to bed instead of being up working until the moment my head hit the pillow.
I could give you more tips about running a business during the first trimester, but honestly the most important thing I learned is that you have to let yourself REST and you have to be okay with being a little bit slower. Running my business those first 13 weeks was about giving grace and understanding a new mindset. If nothing else, I just want you to know that it will be okay! Whether you share or not why things might have slowed down is your choice, but I promise you, you’ll come out afterwards and feel better and know that it’s okay. Once your second trimester hits, push a little hard and catch up some – and PREP for the third trimester and baby’s birth! Learn to think ahead! For so many of us, our businesses are our babies – so taking time to step back, to rest, to say no to a few things is REALLY hard but it’s important for you and baby.

We don’t all have to be super moms – no matter how much we think we do. And if you’re like me and this is the first time you’ve experienced any of this? Don’t push yourself too much and lose the experience because you were too stressed out over working enough. Remember to enjoy what you’re going through (as much as anyone can enjoy morning sickness!) and take a deep breath. Your business will be there tomorrow, it can wait and it will still be your baby in the morning. 🙂
Good luck, mama!
xoxo

Disclaimer!: I’ve spent some time now deciding what to share when it comes to being a boss owner + being pregnant – especially for the first time. I’m no expert and goodness knows I don’t want/need this blog to become all about my pregnancy so I’ve decided to share some brief blog posts here and there to share on my experiences and how I’ve coped with various parts of being a business owner + first time pregnant lady.
