My Heart Belongs in Charleston

Personal

June 8, 2016

For Thanksgiving in 2015, my family decided to travel down to Myrtle Beach SC, stay in a condo and just relax by the water. Those four days were WONDERFUL but my favorite day of all was when we got to visit the absolutely stunning and historical Charleston. It was my only request since we’d be fairly close. Thank goodness my family is willing to indulge my requests (and also wanted to visit there too!). This city has been  on my bucket list for years and I don’t think we can be friends if you don’t see why! (I’m kidding!).

By the time Ryan, Megan and I arrived in SC, we found out my parents and grandparents had booked a bus tour into Charleston. It was perfect. We left in the morning (right after I was able to capture some beautiful sunrise pictures), didn’t have to drive or get lost – which we would have in this family- and arrived in Charleston mid-morning. It turns out we were the only folks on the bus so that was even better–just the 8 of us and our lovely bus driver. Driving into the city was interesting because they had just received a bunch of rain and the streets were covered! But we made it- I had finally arrived in the city of my dreams!

After we got off the bus, we walked through the historic market place to find the horse + carriage tours. If you’ve never taken any of those tours in Charleston, it’s rather interesting – you don’t know what you’re going to see until the start of the tour when the driver picks up a number to tell him which route he can take (It’s how the city controls the traffic these tours bring since there’s so many of them!). We wound up getting to see the historic homes and drove by the Battery Park there. If you know me, you know cities aren’t my thing but this southern beauty is full of charm and I fell in love during that carriage ride.

The architecture is really something! Absolutely beautiful homes, seriously. I could have looked at them all day.

Following the tour, we got to have lunch at A.W. Shucks – which was DELCIOUS. I highly recommend you check them out if you go to Charleston! Seafood is the one type of food I’ll never give up (okay, that and pizza) and these folks know how to make some good food!!! Once our bellies were full, we walked back through the open air market. I was dying to get one of the baskets but they’re so expensive (as they should be – totally handmade!). It’s incredible how much talent is in this city!!

My only other request was seeing Rainbow Row (and guess what? We made it!). I wish I could have stayed longer to really soak in the colors but that’s alright! What a fun street!!

Charleston is just full of old world charm. It’s like this city has stopped in time and it’s truly something to be a part of. If I could ever afford to live in that beautiful place, I would. Without a second thought. Absolutely one of my most favorite towns in the US!

When we were done with Charleston, we boarded the bus and headed to see Boone Hall  – but that’s for another blog post! For now, I hope you’ve enjoy a few of my favorite photos from Charleston. I hope it makes your heart swoon like mine does every time I see them. I’ll be back one day, Charleston- just you wait!

XOXO,

Kristina
