Mentoring Session with Bulloss Photography

Business Tips

January 27, 2016

When I started wedding planning, the photographer for the day was probably the biggest decision I felt like I had to make. Being a photographer myself and having photographed several weddings, I knew what it was like and I wanted to make sureย  I had a super connection with my photographer, loved his/her photos and felt like they enhanced the feelings I would have on the biggest day of my (and my husband’s) life.

ย I came across Bulloss Photography a bit before I got engaged because I actually danced with Jess YEARS ago and went to high school with her little sister (miss you, Kim!). We chatted back and forth by email and Skype and I KNEW she was who I wanted. Unfortunately, schedules didn’t match and we were both extremely bummed when we found out. After the heartbreak was over, I emailed Jess a few months later having realized I wanted to re-start my business not long after our wedding was over. I asked if she did any kind of mentoring sessions and she happily replied she would be starting them! We quickly booked a date and before I knew it, Ryan and I were down to Blacksburg in mid-January for an awesome day!

Jess and her husband Will opened their home to Ryan and me for the day. We spent hours talking about posing, lighting, ways to make a blog, Instagram feed, facebook page and website cohesive. We took pictures of our husbands to work on lighting while they chatted about the business side of things (and probably football knowing them…) and Jess and I talked about why we started to do what we are and gushed about how happy we were to finally see each other. In the afternoon, Jess took us over to Virginia Tech’s horticulture gardens for some new headshots and a hands-on session so I could begin to practice what she’d taught me earlier that day.ย

I learned SO much I’m hoping to utlize the futher I get into this new business and I cannot thank her and Will enough for their love and support that day. Without you two, I’m not sure I’d be doing this! Ryan and I learned much more than some techniques and poses. We learned how to make a business run by working together, we learned that is possible to make your dreams come true and we made two new friends who we hope to keep for the rest of our lives. Thank you both for that wonderful day!ย

  5. Having someone to support you and bounce ideas back and forth with is invaluable!!!

  6. This is a great example of #CommuntityOverCompetition. One of my New Year Resolutions is to find a photographer I look up to and ask if they’ll do the same with me.
