One of the best parts about the Celebrating Love series is that I get to learn all about the wonderful couples I’m photographing and their stories. Although I’ve known Kirslyn since high school (won’t tell you how long that’s been!), hearing her + Melissa’s love story is brand new to me. These two have been together a year and a half, but after watching them, it feels like a life time – in the best way possible! Kirslyn and Melissa compliment each other so well and I loved having the chance to capture their laughter and love.
I loved that these two are so down to earth and just love being together. They both told me their favorite date night was getting to stay home and make dinner together – how perfect is that?! It’s such a great reminder that our relationships don’t have to be full of fancy nights out to last forever. When I asked them both what they’ve learned from their relationship, their answers reminded me of why we have relationships in the first place. Kirslyn told me she learned to jump in and take a chance, while Melissa told me she’s learned patience, compassion and how to love.
When I asked these two what their advice would be to others in relationships, their answers were definitely some of the favorites I received. Melissa said “Be open, be honest, put your phone down, spend time together, really get to know your partner on a deeper level, do small things for each other because little things are important. Wake up looking at that person and ask yourself, ‘What am I going to do to make their day today?’ and then do it.” and Kirslyn? “Communicate well and often. Appreciate each other’s flaws, laugh frequently, tell them how you feel, even if it isn’t a positive feeling at that moment. Love hard, with intensity and ferocity. Tell your partner you like their butt. And smile.” If that’s not the best advice you’ve heard, I don’t know what is.
Ladies, I loved getting to spend time with you and capture you both happy together. I wish you many more happy moments together and I hope you never stop loving and celebrating each other.
xoxo
Kristina
