Hello everyone! I am the second voice to Kristina’s segment, Wine About It. She asked if I wanted to write a post on my own, and I could not wait to get started! I thought I would go ahead and share some things about me and my wine journey so far. I also have a few tips that I would love to share with everyone. I am by no means an expert and continue to learn new things about wine. It is certainly a fun journey, and I hope you enjoy learning a few things about me!
Fact:
I prefer red to white wines. I am a huge fan of Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots. I love the flavor and full bodied taste of red wines. In general I am someone who prefers savory to sweet flavors. I love tastes like coffee, dark chocolate, spicy flavors, and salty snacks. I have never been someone who snacks on candy or anything sweet, but put a bowl of chips or pretzels in front of me and I go to town. I feel the same way when I pick out wine. I do not like the taste of sweet wines at all (Kristina and I have very similar wine tastes, haha).
Tip:
I have fallen in love with stemless wine glasses and you should to. So, just as I said earlier, I am no expert. I understand there are wino people who have opinions about which glass goes with which wine (blah, blah, blah). Stemless glasses have changed the game for me when it comes to sipping on any adult beverage. They make it easier to drink, especially if you are a clumsy person like me… I have a much harder time spilling my wine, if there is no stem ready to fall at any point in time (see it must be true, I just rhymed!) The stemless glasses are also much easier to clean and just throw in the dishwasher. The final and the best selling point for stemless glasses, is that you can put anything you want in them! Want to sip on some wine, or maybe you feel like making a mixed drink? Well, you can do all of that and more in a stemless glass! Make the change, you won’t be sorry.
Fact:
Ok, so I know this kind of goes against the theme of this segment, but I actually prefer beer to wine most of the time. (Scandalous!) It really depends on what mood I’m in and what I’m eating, but for the most part I will grab a craft beer over a glass of wine. Right now some of my favorite beers to try are sour beers. They are usually high in price, but if you are a fellow sour lover like myself, you won’t mind spending a little extra to try some. (If anyone has interest, maybe we can convince Kristina to have me back to write a segment all about my favorite beers!)
Tip:
This one might seem obvious, but hear me out. Always read the labels and descriptions when buying new wines. I have to confess; I have great anxiety when it comes to trying new wines. It always feels overwhelming and I never know what to get. I have tried buying wines with the pretty labels, but it never really seems to work out for me… I have a friend (who knows more about wine than me) tell me to always read the descriptions and to never buy a wine I’m unfamiliar with without a description. It is not always full proof, but it helps me narrow down what wines look worth trying (so I’m not wasting money on an entire bottle).
I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me and I look forward to drinking more for research in the future!
Cheers!
Danielle
