When people ask me why they should blog, I always tell them that it makes Google happy. And when Google’s happy, everything else in your business is happy because you’re reaching new audiences, demonstrating your expertise and so much more. But the benefits and purposes of blogging don’t end there. Blogging can be a great tool for your business – even beyond the all-powerful Google! So, how can you use blogs to market and grow your business? Today, I’m sharing three other ways to use your blogs and why they’re worthwhile to prepare!
Build your email list.
Blogs are a great place to build your email lists. I know it seems kind of strange, but within your blogs you can link to and share your opt-ins, which bring people to your email list. Share about a topic and embed the most appropriate opt-in that you have for that topic. Or, link to your offers (or waitlists) as appropriate. Blogging should always give your readers somewhere else to go to continue engaging with you – and those opt-ins are a great option!
Improve your client experience.
For many businesses, blogs can be an easy way to improve your client experience. Think about how you can serve or educate your clients and write a post about it. Is there something you’re asked a lot? Turn it into a chance to educate your clients. For photographers or other service-based businesses, blogs can also be a chance to highlight what you do (like sessions or weddings) and share them with your clients. Not only are you providing inspiration for them, you’re literally showing off your clients. Who wouldn’t feel amazing after being highlighted like that? Consider making a step in your workflow to share their blog with them, encourage them to share, and so on.
Repurpose your blog for content.
I’m a firm believer in not re-inventing the wheel when it comes to content. If you’ve already spent the time preparing a blog, think about how else you can use it. Can you make a social media post (or two or three) from that content? Or could you create a short video or Reel? Another option is to take your existing content (YouTube videos, a podcast…) and turn them into a blog too. The cycle can go both ways. Don’t make your life harder than it has to be. Use what you have and always remember to point back to your website so you can get that traffic.
Writing blogs isn’t just about making Google happy, as you can see. There’s so many great ways to use your blogs to benefit your business – it’s just about being intentional and purposeful with your time and energy. I hope these ideas help you feel inspired to put your energy into writing content this year!
