Highlighting some of my favorite locations is fun for a few reasons: I love getting to look back at older sessions to pull images from, I love sharing new spots to photograph my clients and allowing them find somewhere new to enjoy and I think it’s just fun to show you how unique a location can look depending on the time of year, the client, wardrobe and so on. This week’s location highlight is Government Island!! I feel like Government Island can be one of the best kept secrets from photographers – but it’s such a beautiful (and convenient!) location!
The first reason I love Government Island is that it’s full of beautiful covered walkways, bridges, water scenery and even a beach if you walk far enough. There’s something for everyone! Since most of the land is covered, the shade helps to guarantee some beautiful images no matter what! Plus, I’m just all about full scenery.
Government Island is full of diversity! Everyone is happy – because there really is a spot for everyone. My clients are amazed when we walk down a little and find a few great bridges right by a small, perfect spot of water and when we walk a little further we get more stones and woodsy feels from the old quarry that was once there. I love the variety and that we only have to go to ONE spot and walk around to get tons of looks! It means that in one session we get to please mom, dad and the kiddos – plus have the flexibility of how far we want to walk, what looks are most important and what really fits well with what my clients choose to wear to their session. Seriously, a win-win no matter how you look at it!
This location is super convenient. Out of all the parks I use, I feel like Government Island is the cleanest in terms of parking, meeting spots and just being EASY! Logistics are important, people!
But no, it’s just amazing that something like this spot exists right here in Stafford. When I’m not using it for sessions, I love just going to walk the trails with my hubby and Shelby. I know we’ll love taking baby boy out there too!
Government Island is definitely worth a look for your next session (or even just a nice day’s walk!). Interested in getting on the fall calendar for your portraits? Send me a note here! I’d love to chat. 🙂
xoxo
