I can’t say enough wonderful things about downtown Occoquan! I’ve loved this part of Northern VA since I was a little girl – I used to come up here to go boating with my grandparents and now, Ryan and I have fallen in love again with the charm of this town – it’s restaurants, it’s walkways and it’s waterfront views. That being said, it’s one of my all-time favorite locations for a session, especially in the spring + fall when all the beautiful colors of the area come out! Today’s location highlight is all about the always gorgeous downtown Occoquan!
One of the most obvious reasons to love this spot is that one location, all within walking distances from each other gives us many looks + feels! We’re able to accomplish waterfront images, small-town shop images and more urban images too! In the spring, there’s lots of green and the fall gives us such beautiful and warm colors. Although I tend to focus on the actual town area of Occoquan, if you hop across the street to the park, you’ll get even more beautiful water views and greenery!
I tend to photograph subjects at golden hour – which means REALLY early or around sunset. Although you might see a few other photographers out, there’s usually not too many people otherwise! They’re sleeping or eating or at home, so that means fewer interruptions for us and less distractions for your family or spouse during our session! It also makes grabbing that perfect shot SO much easier since we aren’t competing with lots of pedestrians.
Finally, although the area is beautiful in the spring + fall, anytime around the holidays in the winter can give us some really cozy images! Like many downtown areas, Occoquan decorates meaning we get gorgeous lights, trees and other festive decorations in the winter to incorporate into our images. Not to mention – having to cuddle up in the winter is the SWEETEST in portraits!!!
