Christmas this year has been a bit of an adjustment for everyone–both of us and our families included because this was our FIRST married Christmas! How exciting, right?! Married Christmas means we actually get 3 Christmas celebrations, which is a lot of fun. It’s like the holidays never end! Everyone has been so wonderful to us this holiday season-making the holidays fun and not stressful, not expecting anything from us or demanding we be anywhere and that is such a breath of fresh air! You always hear such crazy stories about the holidays but ours have been relatively calm and full of good cheer!
Christmas Eve traditions have changed over the years in my family. We used to go out to eat and then drive to look at lights in the neighborhoods near us. Over the years, the lights part fell off as the family expanded and the cars shrunk–it just wasn’t the same when we were in separate cars. We then started attending a candlelit service in a one room church with one of my sets of grandparents, which was lovely. However, this year, Ryan and I wanted to start our own traditions for Christmas Eve. It all started because Ryan wanted stuffing to eat–he was craving it and we had joked about what we would eat with it and stuffed crust pizza came up since it’s one of our favorites. As Christmas Eve rolled around, we discussed how serious we were about stuffing and stuffed crust pizza for our dinner. It turns out we were serious enough to do it. So, our stuffed Christmas Eve tradition has begun! We hope that each year, we will add (or change out) new stuffed foods for our menu and one day, when little ones arrive, they will get to pick their favorite stuffed food to enjoy.
Christmas Day was definitely a full one! Ryan and I got up at 530 because we’re still children and opened up our gifts to each other and the ones my parents sent home with us on Christmas Eve. TOC and Grey Cat also got to open some gifts from my parents, aren’t they lucky cats? We had mimosas with breakfast, using champagne from when we got engaged (awwwh!) and Ryan asked for biscuits and gravy, so that’s what we had for breakfast! For not ever making it before, I have to say it came out quite nicely!
Afterwards, we headed to my parents for Christmas dinner. We exchanged gifts and enjoyed a ridiculously long White Elephant exchange, which was a lot of fun too. We also completed our first Christmas Quiz, designed by my aunt, which I won (12/25 questions right, woo hoo!) and all relaxed enjoying our time with each other. Christmas is meant to be a day of love, fun and happiness and ours was bursting at the seams from it all!
We’re so thankful to have such a wonderful family (on both sides!) in our lives! Our last Christmas took place in OH over the new year’s. More about that soon!
XOXO,
Kristina
