This July, Ryan and I took our first cruise on Royal Caribbean with my parents (Joan + David) and his parents (Sandy + Herb). It was a fantastic trip – we got to stop in Bermuda, the Bahamas and their island Cococay over 9 days. Getting to travel with our parents definitely made this a once in a lifetime trip and we consider ourselves SO very lucky to have experienced this with them!!
Because I love traveling and sharing our adventures with you, I’ve split up our trip into three blog posts based on the ports we visited – and maybe some fun tips and things we learned about cruising! My favorite port is first, Bermuda!!!!
I LOVED this beautiful little island. We barely scratched the surface when we visited, but it is full of the sweetest people, the most beautiful plants and delicious food!!
During our first day, we spent a few hours just walking the Royal Dockyard which is full of awesome shops and places to eat- all amidst the beautiful buildings of the island. On on the first night, we got to take a sunset cruise glass bottom boat to see one of the shipwrecks the first night we were there. The glass bottom boat was a neat way to see the amazing fish and coral that are all around the island. Our guides were knowledgeable – taking us through the history for the island and all the sites we saw. We also saw turtles- up close – babies too!! They were absolutely BEAUTIFUL! That was an amazing experience! I think we all liked that part the best!
On the sunset cruise!
Waiting to leave on the sunset cruise!
TURTLE!! They were hard little buggers to get a picture of but I tried!
The second day we were on the island, Ryan and his dad went fishing but my parents, Sandy and I walked more of the island and took a tour of the Commissioner’s house on the end of the island/the Royal Dockyard. It was a great place to view the island from above – the colors are just stunning! So bright and vibrant. We also looked at the glass blowing factory – the stuff they do is simply amazing!!!!! And tried more rum cake, of course! After the Commissioner’s house, we ate at a local joint called The Frog and Onion (my dad’s favorite!! Kidding – he hates onions!). The food was SO good! I wanted to eat on the island and off the ship, just to try and get a feel for some of the culture. The culture on the island is still very British so this place was an English pub sort of feel. (Although we were seated under portraits of Dolley and James Madison- riddle me that one!). Definitely my recommendation if you get a chance to be on the island!
My daddy + me atop the Commissioner’s house!
My parents – Riding the “train” on the island! It’s free and a fun way to travel around the shops!
I hope I’ll get to visit Bermuda again. It was such a beautiful and friendly island – full of smiles, love and gorgeous blue water! My little beach loving heart was so happy!
XOXO,
Kristina
