In the fall, Arthur asked if I would be willing to take some headshots for him. He’s currently studying musical theatre down at Christopher Newport University and has been in numerous productions over the years. He needed some updated headshots for his school year and of course, I was happy to help! He’s a wonderful actor and CNU is beautiful so it was a no brainer. It was a lot of fun to get to take headshots again – I did that alot while I was in college. When I knew I was going to blog this session, I asked Arthur to tell me what he liked about acting and why he wanted to do it for the rest of his life. Come check out what he said!
Q. What were/are some of your favorite roles?
Some of my favorite roles are Wilbur from ‘Hairspray’ because it was my very first musical role and it was so much fun and one of the best roles to enter the musical world with. Another has got to be William Barfee from ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’. It wasn’t a role I was expecting to like so much when was first cast and started working on it, but while playing Barf I learned so much and I could see by the end of the production how much I’ve grown as an actor since that first musical.
Q. What are you working on now?
Legally Blonde! I’m excited to do the show again. I did it back in the summer of 2013 in a theatre in Charlottesville called Live Arts. That was my first long show run. I’m excited for a whole new experience at CNU with the show. Different production team means different experiences. One of my roles is Winthrop, who is the head of admissions at Harvard. I’m also playing other various ensemble roles, which I’m excited to see what is to come with the choreography and other musical numbers.
Q. What’s your favorite part about acting?
I love acting because it’s a chance to invest in something for a few hours outside of your life. I can’t imagine a better job then going on stage and playing for a few hours. It’s also an incredible feeling hearing the audiences reactions both during and after the show and hearing how they too have gotten taken out of the world and put into our little playground for a bit. It’s really one of the most gratifying things.
Make sure you don’t miss him in CNU’s production of Legally Blonde! It’s wildly popular so get them now–the show is playing the 19th-21st and 24th-26th of February!! 🙂 Get your tickets here: http://cnu.edu/theater/season/
