This weekend was such a blast! It was one filled with family, fun, wine and the beautiful outdoors as we enjoyed some un-seasonably warm December weather! Check out what we were up to and what we recommend around the DC area!
I celebrated my birthday (again) with my family and friends by having a sip + paint party at my mom’s house. A huge thanks to Stafford Wine & Design! It was great to have everyone over to celebrate, enjoy some delicious food and paint an adorable picture together! The penguin was a huge success, as you’ll see below. Doesn’t everyone’s look amazing?! Also, the mulled wine we had was such a big hit! I could write a whole blog post on that… It was great to have (almost) all of my family and my college friends in one place to be together right before the holidays.
On Sunday, we got to take my in-laws into DC for the day to see all the monuments and take a walk around the city. It was nice to take them around to see everything I’ve grown up seeing both from afar and up close on field trips and holidays with the family. There’s something really fun about getting to be the know-it-all on the outing for the day! On this trip, I was lucky enough to see the WWII memorial finally and I’m not ashamed to say it brought me to tears. We took a walk up to see Abe and then paid our respects at the Korean War + Vietnam War memorials as well. This was also my first year seeing the National Christmas tree in person! Absolutey stunning. I totally recommend you going to see it if you haven’t already. DC is beautiful any time of year but the holidays make it even more special!
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Elphant + Castle before heading to one of our favorite wineries, Barrel Oak Winery out in Delaplane VA. Wine is always the perfect end to any day and this was no exception! The winery is beautifully decorated for the holidays–another recommendation for all you wine lovers out there. We popped open a bottle of the Bauhaus Red (my in-laws had the Goldie wine) and everyone was happy as could be! BOW’s wine is amazing and you can’t beat the view!
What did you do this weekend to get into the holiday spirit?
We had an amazing weekend! We had a great time visiting with your family and friends. The painting was very fun and I have it proudly displayed in my living room. I also enjoyed the mulled wine, it was very festive. Our walking tour of DC was an unexpected bonus, we loved seeing the sites, the weather was exceptional. Who would have thought we would be eating lunch outside in downtown DC in the middle of December. And finally you can’t beat the view at the winery. The dog themed atmosphere was also a unique experience. Thanks so much, I will never forget this trip!
I’m so glad you could be with us this weekend! We absolutely loved having you! <3 Thank you for coming--everything was PERFECT!!! 🙂
