Thanksgiving in my family is probably just like everyone else’s – a day of family, eating way too much food, football, and love. In the past few years, Thanksgiving has migrated from my grandmothers’ tables, to my mother’s house, to Kitty Hawk, NC even so it was no surprise when we decided to hit the road for Turkey Day 2015. For a few days last week, I was able to (mostly) fall off the grid in Myrtle Beach, SC with my parents, sister, grandparents and aunt to enjoy a few new ways to celebrate Thanksgiving day.
The few days together were full of new adventures together. I don’t think we’ve all laughed this much in a while. The beach was perfect—not too cold out during the days and nights so we could actually enjoy the time there. Here’s a few highlights from our trip down south!
Our first full day there, we hit up a local winery, La Belle Amie—the makers of Twisted Sister wines. Surprise, surprise that we found a winery! I think we gave the employees a run for their money when we came in to do a tasting but wine was delicious and they even had mulled wine that was a big hit with this group—absolutely perfect for the weather! After the tasting, we got to enjoy time out on their patio and found out the owner had actually lived in NOVA at one point in his life. They also had the cutest dog (who I never got a picture of) but she wanted nothing to do with anyone!
Thanksgiving Day we enjoyed pie and watching the parade, the hot tub, and the Pirate dinner + show! The show was AMAZING—lots of acrobatic tricks, live animals (including a sea lion that my hubby LOVED!!!), and a good reminder of what the holiday season is all about. The food was actually quite delicious and pretty much made us all forget we didn’t have to cook a turkey this year! (Excuse the iphone photos—thanks to my sister for catching these of Ryan + me!). We also did some crafting after the parade was over and made cute little Turkeys to hang over the TV for the rest of the trip! Thanks, mom for bringing those down–tons of fun!!
There’ll be a whole post on Charleston soon enough, so I won’t bog you down with pictures, but here’s just a few of my favorites! This was our adventure on Friday. We also got to explore Boone Hall—those of you who’ve seen The Notebook? Yeah, it was filmed there. AMAZING!!!!
Here’s just a few other favorites from the trip:
We had a wonderful time being with some of our favorite people in a brand new place—and isn’t that what Thanksgiving is all about? Tell me about what you did—I hope your day was full of lots of love and your family!
XOXO,
Kristina
