I’m sure that I will say this for every one year old birthday session that I do but it’s especially applicable for this little guy: How did a WHOLE YEAR go by already?! I remember when Brittany and Jeff brought him home from the hospital. Heck, I remember meeting him in the hospital and holding him within the first day he was with us. I remember the way he snuggled up against me and held my fingers. And now he’s holding my fingers to hold himself up and get stabilized to walk across the floor! Jeffrey, little guy, I cannot believe that that you’re one!!
While we were in Ohio this December, Brittany asked if I wanted to do some cake smash pictures for this guy and I said YES! Funny story about how it all went down though… We had his birthday party on Thursday. He LOVED the cake we gave him then. But when Saturday morning rolled around to do the shoot, he wanted nothing (and I mean NOTHING) to do with the cake smash cake. He cried, he howled, he looked at us like we were the meanest people ever. Over cake! It broke my heart but was also a little bit comical. And it’s a great reminder that, hey, things don’t always go right.
Despite his upset over the cake, we were able to get some pretty cute shots of him in his other outfit and I was able to get some great shots Thursday of him eating the cake at his party. So at least we have those! There’s something really fun about capturing kiddos when they’re just a year old. They’re learning how to walk, vocalize some words and they’re just so stinkin’ cute! First birthday portraits are a time to celebrate how big they’ve gotten over the last year and to really just freeze time for the parents. These kids will never be that small again, it’s absolutely worth celebrating the moment they still are your little baby.
Jeffrey, seriously. I’m the luckiest aunt in the world. I’m so sorry you hated your cake but we loved how cute you were trying to figure out what in the world was going on! I can’t believe you’re one! I’ve loved getting to see you grow up over the last year and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead of you. Aunt KK and Uncle RyRy love you to the moon and back! Happy first birthday!
XOXO,
Kristina (Aunt KK)
